Winter Farm & Construction Worker

Position: Part-Time Winter Farm & Construction Worker
Schedule: Part-time - averaging 2-3 days/week but will vary
Season: Winter 2026–27 - starting ASAP
Starting Pay: $20–$25/hour, based on experience

Watmough Bay Farm is looking for someone to work with us part-time this winter on a variety of building, construction, and farm improvement projects.

This position will be a combination of construction and general farm work, although the majority of the work this winter will be construction and building projects.

We have a growing farm and a long list of infrastructure projects we want to complete before the 2027 season. This is a good opportunity for someone who enjoys working with their hands, building things, solving problems, and seeing a project through from start to finish.

The Work

Winter projects will include building and improving farm infrastructure, with projects such as:

  • Building and modifying mobile poultry coops

  • Upgrading our chick brooder

  • Carpentry and general construction

  • Fencing and other livestock infrastructure

  • Repairs and maintenance around the farm

  • Other building and improvement projects as needed

There will also be some general farm work mixed in, including helping with animals and other seasonal farm tasks.

The exact work will vary from week to week depending on the projects underway and the weather.

What We’re Looking For

You don’t need to be a professional carpenter, but we are looking for someone who already has some experience building things and is comfortable using common power and hand tools.

You should:

  • Have some construction, carpentry, or building experience

  • Be comfortable and safe using power tools

  • Be able to measure accurately and follow basic building plans

  • Be comfortable figuring things out and solving problems as you work

  • Be able to lift 50 lbs and perform physical work

  • Be comfortable working outdoors during the winter

  • Be dependable and able to work independently as well as alongside us

  • Come to work with a good attitude and be ready to get things done

  • You should have your own on-island housing

Experience with farming, livestock, welding, electrical, plumbing, equipment repair, or mechanical work is a plus, but not required.

We’re happy to teach someone how we do things on the farm, but we’re looking for a person who already has a basic level of confidence with tools and construction.
